For goodness sake Pete – the pundits have voted Paul Henry as this that and the other as well .. Bill Birch got a knighthood for being a neo liberal muldoon-fearful sycophant … Hilary Barry – sublime.
No.
She is a very stilted overpaid talking head. Nothing more. Shipped off at great cost funded by the Joyce/taxpayer fund – and feted by – well – herself and her colleagues.
She’s made up – she talks – she comments about things she has no business commenting on in a tone and manner that suggests marge and the “youre soaking in it brigade” and is Judy Bailey with a little bit more nous and bodyfat quotient. And she can read from a teleprompter.
A metaphor for the quality of our media and our politics…
We’re entitled to our opinions, Ivan. I don’t agree with yours.
I’ll clip any more of your graceless Hilary bashing, FYI. – P
“overpaid”.
Are you not aware she works for Mediaworks?
I have thus disproved your theory.
what do you call overpaid …
Pete – mate – if you have a thing for Hils – you have the right after all its your platform for dialogue.
I’ve never bashed hillary – just disagreed with your drooling thats all – its not good form or healthy for someone of your tender age to drool over a media star. I can forward a box of tissues.
Can i do a beat-up on Maggie Barry – she has to be a target. After all – anyone with that sort of fetish for fertiliser and parliament has to be dodgy??
Hillary – please try to be serious on air – its disturbing to see you pick up awards like Garfield – “so much air time – and so little to do …” and all funded by (Joyce and) the Taxpayer
re ‘Drooling’ … 😉 chuckle
Now that you mention it, HB *is* pretty easy on the eyes, but seriously, that’s not my angle. I was impressed by her before … but think she did a crash-hot job anchoring the 3News Chch earthquake coverage. (Sacha McNeil did very well too, IMO.) You may naturally disagree and prefer a different approach.
That was my opinion of HB long before I met her at RadioLIVE, and there I see/hear a different side of her … an ‘attitude’ which sometimes cracks me up.
But hello? That’s breakfast radio for you. It ain’t church, and it’s not for everybody.
Stilted? Not from where I sit. Each to their own, I guess, Ivan.

Matey .. anyone could cover an earthquake and be seen as a media star. Its not hard – really it isnt.
Even Hills admitted her slight embarassment – but hey – take the money and run.
Peter – i just dont think these people deserve much more than their salaries and a pie and chips at the end of the day. There are people with more to offer – working on $13 an hour and keeping their kids fed and watered and in school. Hillary may be a nice chick .. but mate she has advantage on her side.
Its like i feel when i watch NZ’s top model and feel like unleashing freddy kruger on these facile, meaningless moronic caricatures of human existence – but then they arent the problem – its the media constructs that support them and their fantasy ….. Like…???
“Its not hard – really it isnt.”
Let me just say from my experience, live television — and radio for that matter — are not as easy as professionals like this make it look.
Sorry, I won’t discuss my colleague with you any more. It’s not fair to her.
– P
We will agree to disagree … but it is a canned environment and i do have some firsthand experience of it. its a template – and down the the speech inflections – it becomes like a video or audio loop. For the record – i thought her coverage of christchurch was trite and trivial. But thats just me.
Like a i said mate – $13.00 an hour – kids to feed – life to live – thats where the real heroes are. Not madeup media constructs slotting into an overpaid delivery template.
She is your colleague and you will prevent discussion – you have limits as a platform for dialogue. A dialogue i think is long overdue. What have we become as a nation – a loose conglomeration of soundbites masquerading as a Kiwi Ethos.
Ms Sublime wins again!

Well deserved.
No [negative] correspondence will be entered into . 🙂 – P
Just goes to show how silly these awards are.
Peoples choice merely reflects those who are fooled by the images projected. There are many more who are not.
I sleep easier knowing that is the case….
[…] her win as best newsreader at last night’s New Zealand Radio awards. Cool. I’m already on the record with my opinion of the TV3/RadoiLIVE newsreader: I think she’s a sublime professional. And […]
