It’s GST return time in my empire. Look what fell out of the envelope …
This is, of course, just a day or two after NZ Post announced the laying off of hundreds of posties because falling mail volumes means they’ll be dropping urban ‘standard post’ delivery back to three days a week. (See: Hundreds of posties to lose jobs, deliveries cut — Radio NZ News)
What an interconnected world we live in.

In my view they are fools (NZ Post) … retro will become the new black. The creepy, insidious, dubiously “efficient” digital age will implode and the great unwashed will twig to the fact that their basic dignities and rights have been taken away … and they have lost a singular skill in commnication.
I see a major market in fountain pens and high quality letterwriting stationery … its a must.
I put it all down to tight underwear .. and a lack of spanking.
Now where is that ping pong bat ….
I was at an information evening for my son’s new school last week and one of the staff told us that the school newsletter ONLY went out by email … and same with school reports etc …
Multiply that by hundreds of schools and you can sense the loss of post/revenue.
In my own businesses, I use far less ‘glossy brochures’ posted out en masse, and far more email and web-based information.
As someone in a small government somewhere in the South Pacific said: “Those jobs aren’t coming back.”

I was somewhat tongue in cheek … however i do think that NZ Post have known about developments for a long time … they failed to adjust or rejig.
Lets face it … there is still a lot of positive capital in something hardcopy – tangible … but …. the cost of post is horrendous and has been for some time. The sheer tactile splendour of receiving something addressed to you .. and sensuously open (goldplated letterknife) and slide the hidden article out of its cocoon …. only to find its a bill.
Shit ….
