The references to eating dogs, and your PJ O’Rourke quip reminded me of this:
“People are all exactly alike. There’s no such thing as a race and barely such a thing as an ethnic group. If we were dogs, we’d be the same breed. George Bush and an Australian Aborigine have fewer differences than a Lhasa apso and a toy fox terrier. A Japanese raised in Riyadh would be an Arab. A Zulu raised in New Rochelle would be an orthodontist. People are all the same, though their circumstances differ terribly.”
― P.J. O’Rourke
The POTUS speech at the WH Correspondents’ Dinner speech is traditionally a ‘roast’ — aimed at the media, his political opponents and allies … traditionally funny.
It’s not a ‘State of the Nation’ or a serious policy speech before Congress & the Senate.
See this one: Obama and McCain roasted at the Alfred E. Smith Dinner — traditionally a ‘debate’ held between presidential candidates just before the election … where John McCain LABELS the speech a ‘comedy routine’ and prepares his audience for ‘non-stop hilarity’. (The good-natured ribbing and respect McCain and Obama demonstrated was, to me, heart-warming. As, elsewhere, was McCain’s refusal to allow his supporters to call Obama ‘unAmerican’.)
I think Ivan is speaking generally here not at this particular engagement.
Obama is charismatic no doubt other than that he is and has been Poor. just as I predicted.
The general public is stupid and lapped/ing Obama up. Most of the policy’s, Sorry scratch that all the policy’s he was preaching pre election that he would act on immediately if he came into office hes has retracted on.
Just look at the Democratic’s meme at the moment. Vote us back as we have only done half the job. What, What? Half what half you mean you have done nothing.
But Americans don’t care because Obama is no Bush,so hes gotta to be good, well open your eyes hes just as bad. And in some cases worse Bush did not sugar coat things.
By the way Obama is stirring up race related issues, which is brain washing the American public to help stem his vote.
PJ O’Rourke described the Presidency of Barack Obama as “the Carter administration in better sweaters”.
About right,

He’s a great communicator, isn’t he. I’m sure he’ll get another term.
He mostly says a lot of nothing – a typical preacher. Full of flights of fancy and angels ascending staircases.
In the end he lacked the moral fibre to really hit the elites in the nuts where they and the american people really needed him to.
A moral coward.
Perhaps as Poormastery – the guru of zurich and zeermatt would say – a “moral slopjar”.
I still dont know what a slopjar is…
Hey Ivan,
Loosen up, chum.

Its a little like betting on the prettiest racehorse.
