Negative attack is one way to diminish your rivals, but it’s not building a vision …
“You have to campaign to govern, not just to win,” [Gov. Mitch] Daniels told Matthew Tully of The Indianapolis Star. “Spend the precious time and dollars explaining what’s at stake and a constructive program to make life better. And as I say, look at everything through the lens of folks who have yet to achieve.”
According to Mr. Tully, “after a pause, Daniels added with disappointment, ‘Romney doesn’t talk that way.’
From After Endorsing, Indiana Governor Criticizes Romney — NY Times
Since Mr Romney’s candidacy depends on his vast experience as a parasitic asset-stripper, I think it’s too much to expect anything constructive.
Thanks for sharing your view, Graeme. What do you make of this:
Paid for by Romney for President, Inc.
Now, I’m not saying the Obama campaign won’t stoop to attack Romney, but this pro-Romney propaganda piece is a fine example of telling lies about your political opponent’s campaign tactics because you think your opponent will spread lies about your campaign tactics. (This again.)
The ‘oh-but-the-others-play-so-DIRTY’ justification for … dirty play is what commentator Chris Trotter referred to recently when dismissing someone he apparently sees as an unprincipled union basher:
This Romney ad uses Oliver Stone JFK-ish techniques in an effort to create an impression that Obama campaign staffers are using ‘Kill Romney!’ as some sort of team slogan. Considering Barack Obama is probably the US President most at risk of assassination for years, I find that very hard to believe.
Personally, I find this type of smear/attack ad nasty, tribal, deceitful stuff …
