OK this is getting spooky. After Dilbert climbed into the G4 iPhone prototype theft, now Jon Stewart has also … “buying” for the sake of his commentary the idea that Apple has the Silicon Valley police SWAT team in its pocket. And coining the term ‘Appholes’. Zing!

Of course. Makes sense. That could just be a gag line, but I don’t think so.
His “You know I love you guys right? But you’re turning into The Man” sentiment seems authentic to me, and his angst about eccentric/bullying behaviour … well, certainly fair comment. From my point of view, he might more fully consider the competitive pressure that Apple is facing in the cut-throat high-tech market and the impact the, let’s just say comprehensive, knock-offs of their expensvely-produced intellectual property might have on their collective psyche but, I respect Jon Stewart’s views of media ethics. (Stewart is certainly one of my influences. I assume that’s obvious.)
I fully suppose that’s his Apple gear on the table. (After all, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Stephen Fry, Jerry Seinfield … among many others … all use Macs. He’d be an ‘odd’ comedian to do differently. Like him, I’ve been using Mac gear since we all felt like ‘rebels, misfits and outlaws’ doing so. Now it’s almost mainstream.
The ‘The cops had to bash in the guy’s door? Don’t they know there’s an app for that?’ gag did make me laugh…
For the record, I still think the adolescents at Gizmodo/Gawker have a criminal case to answer. I still think they’ve been sleazy. I like what Daniel Eran Dilger has to say at Roughly Drafted Magazine on the issues. (Warning: long but well-crafted and, as always, well-researched and ‘cross-threaded’ argument/rant. I love it. Dilger is another ‘guru’ to me.)
